My 10 favourite places for UX UI design inspiration

Where do I get my best kept secrets from?

Here are a few places I like to have a nosy around when looking for design inspiration, it doesn’t always come from these places but they are super handy to know about ?

1. Awwwards

This is a site I visit at least a few times a week as there is vast collection of innovative design to be inspired by. I always come across content that maybe relevant to a current project or have influence in the future. It’s an amazing place to learn new techniques around typography, illustration and blog material, an excellent reference of emerging design trends.

2. Dribble

This is a great social network and showcase tool for designers, you can really see how work in progress comes together, I especially take inspiration from motion design within apps

3. Muzli

A nice resource centre that’s been created by the guys at Invision and acts as a search engine for your next design project. I especially like the related palettes as you dig into the detail, definitely worth a look. I also recommend installing the chrome extension – open a new tab with fresh ideas.

4. Behance

This has a ton of resource and places to feast your eyeballs on. A lot of talent post here so be sure to check it out. Also have a look at the ‘live’ section and filter by design discipline, some great UX UI design tips here.

5. Pinterest

I love this platform as I always seem to get good visual results when searching for ideas and I especially like the visual compare tool. A bit like some of the other platforms I use this to build boards and pin reference material to them – from UI design to house ideas, check out my design board here.

6. The Noun Project

A great point of reference for creating icons and using them as it’s a free resource where talented individuals post their collection of iconography for use in the design community. I find this site really useful, highly recommended.

7. UI8

If you need to kick off your next site or app concept have a quick look over on UI8, it has web themes, UI kits, design systems and some nice illustrations. Definitely worth a look for ideas or you can buy UI kits for a reasonable price – I tend to look at the ideas for creative direction ?

8. Unsplash

A well established free resource library with quality imagery that doesn’t look like stock. It captures real people, individuals and groups within their communities with events, current affairs and news worthy moments from around the world, also – check out their blog.

9. Pexels video

Another great site for free photography but here it’s worth a look at some of the free video footage on offer. This is cool if you want to add some rich media into your work. They also invite you to take on challenges and upload videos to win prizes.

10. Medium

I must look at this once a day (not so much as weekends) and find lots of hot topics that are extremely thought provoking. I think it’s essential to read and gather points of view from others in the design community to help reflect your ideas as it could have influence on how you interpret your next piece of work. I go into detail on my experience as a freelance UX UI designer and also posted my experience in an article on Medium.
